The Dichotomy of Humanity
I started this project with the intention of documenting the dichotomy of humanity. Photographing the best and worst aspects of being a human. As I ventured to create images with these representations, I realized it’s not that simple. Humans, even life itself, are not so absolute. We are complex and complicated beings. We are not good or evil. We are simply living, learning, and evolving. So as I explored deeper into the beautiful and devastating pieces of humanity, I found that these things exist simultaneously. I found that passion is often accompanied with disappointment. I found that a spark of exploration and experience is often followed by boredom. I found that love is often paired with heartbreak. I found that life is a constant ebb and flow. We humans are constantly changing. Changing our looks, our passions, what occupies our time, what we want in life, what we want for dinner, everything. Our minds are never made up and we never stay in a constant state. We, like the rest of nature around us, are ever changing. So while I may have failed to express the dichotomies of humanity as separate entities, I have discovered that the most beautiful part of being human is the dichotomy that exists within ourselves.
